In the United States, it is often necessary to confirm your age when drinking alcohol at restaurants or clubs, or when using a credit card. It may not be a problem for those who are staying for a short period of time, but for those who are staying for a long period of time or for students living in New York, it may be inconvenient and worrisome to carry a passport every day. In addition, it takes a lot of time and effort to obtain a New York State ID or a non-driver's license.
First, you will need a total of four points of documents for the application.
・Three points of documents to prove your identity
You can use your passport, visa, or other documents. If you have a Japanese passport, you can get three points with just one document. You can also use a state ID or a green card from another state.

・One point of document to prove your residence
You can use your mobile phone bill, utility bill, or bank statement, which are each worth one point.

Regardless of your status, all New Yorkers living in New York can obtain the card.
Bank account
IDNYC is a card for all New Yorkers living in the five boroughs, regardless of their background. Your immigration status is not a problem.
IDNYC provides a sense of security by having a widely accepted government-issued photo identification. It is recognized as an ID for interactions with the New York City Police Department (NYPD), access to all city buildings that provide citizen services, eligibility for affordable housing purchases through NYC Housing Connect, proof of identity for employment, and as an ID for medical benefits. It can also be used as a public library card, to access personal or child immunization records, and to open a bank account at certain financial institutions. IDNYC benefits all city residents, including the most vulnerable communities such as the homeless, youth, undocumented immigrants, and formerly incarcerated individuals who may have difficulty obtaining a government-issued photo identification.
